Doris is a Greek-Australian born author and poet, who grew up in a loving and traditional Greek family background in Adelaide, South Australia.
Visiting her parents’ homeland in 1976 left a profound impact on Doris. She felt connected and belonged. Thirty-four years later, she returned to Greece and the connection to her parent’s homeland had grown even stronger. This is when the inspiration came for her to write.
She published her first book, Life Has Two Doors in 2016, followed by the Greek edition in 2019. On her fifth return from Australia to her mother’s village, Palaios Panteleiomonas, she held book launch events for each book, sentimental moments she holds close.
Doris’ passion and love for migration stories led her in 2020 to write short articles for The Greek Herald, National Greek Daily Newspaper.
She is also the creator of the Facebook page, Hellenics in South Australia, which she started in March 2020, as a means to share migration stories and keep them alive for future Greek-Australian generations.
Morosely, life threw a colossal challenge to Doris and her family’s life, when their eldest son was diagnosed with cancer in late 2020. Heartbreakingly at 32, he lost his battle with the illness in June 2022.
Through this time of absolute grief, Doris put pen to paper and began writing poetry. Her new book called Pimata (soon to be released) is a compilation of beautiful poems, a heart-warming reminder that you are not alone in times of grief.
